I'm going with the Oregon Zoo's orangutans pick! GO CARDINALS!!!

One really TALL Duplo tower...

Can't believe that January '09 will be history in just a little over 5 hours.

Why I smiled today...We had a really good day at home, just hanging out, building things, dancing and mommy got to take a 2 hour much needed nap (THANK YOU VICTOR)!

Charlie & I did make this together...I had to put the final tall part on, but she helped until she couldn't reach any higher.

So, why not more consistant posts with PHOTOS on the blog lately...

One thing anyone around me will hear me say often..."Everything happens for a reason"...There is a plan for all of us, we are all here for a purpose! ;-)

I wasn't sure lately why things haven't been lining up for me when it comes to Relay For Life...that was until 2 weeks ago and then last Friday afternoon when I made a personal commitment to help out a new Relay to me....

I'm now the Event Chair at the Beaverton Relay For Life. What does this mean? It means that I get a new opportunity to help a Relay that needed a little extra help this year. It means new opportunities to work with some new Relay and some old Relay friends. It means that I'm super excited for the first time in a while about really helping out a Relay directly, like I had been a few years ago and seeing what a real difference we are making in our communities!

Yes, this takes time...but we are already building up our Committee with new and returning members and I know this is where I'm suppose to be.

SO--If you live in the Portland area and you are looking for somewhere to Relay...MARK YOUR CALENDARS...August 1st 10 a.m. - August 2nd 10 a.m. Valley Catholic High School, Beaverton....

Be warned....many, MANY more posts in the next 183+ days regarding this event!

Yes, I've been busy, but I'm working on more photos of the kiddo and us and fun times we continue to be blessed enough to have!!!

What I made last Saturday...

Now, this might not look like that much...BUT, let me tell you, this thing took me close to 6 hours to make!! Granted, I was talking and visiting with people most of those 6 hours! What is it? It's a really cool 12-drawer box. Made out of card stock, paper and some recycled sweater boxes (for reinforcement).

It's not done yet, I still need to decorate it and put some type of handles on each drawer...but it's CUTE and was fun to figure out. Idea was taken from a fellow CTMH (Close To My Heart) blogger.

What Charlotte and I did tonight...

Victor was gaming with the boys tonight, so Charlie & I had a girls night all to ourselves! We started off the fun at Costco! Did a bunch of "looking" and just purchased a few things. Let her walk and walk and walk and then we had hot dogs and lemonade there for dinner (her request).

She had a blast running around upstairs and re-arranging her bedroom (hence the huge mess in the photos). Then a super big bubble bath in mommy's bathtub, then we both feel asleep watching Ratatouille on my bed.

Why I smiled today...Lots of fun with my kiddo today.

New Olympic sport -- Wah-wah tossing...

Why I smiled today...We spent over 45 minutes laughing our heads off while Charlie tossed Big Wah-wah up in the air, over and over again...I really need to get a camera with video capabilities again...some of the things she says are just TOO funny!

Wednesday night...

We had a very productive couple of hours purging clothing in Charlie's room tonight. Her buddha belly has been showing too often these days, because she's wearing shirts that are too small...I finally decided it was time to make some decisions and let go of the small stuff...We filled up 3 large bags of clothes **EDITED** That we will be shipping off to PA in the next week or two so that Chris & Linda (Victor's brother & his wife) can use them for their little baby girl due in April.

It felt really, REALLY good to clear out her dresser and closet! There were a few outfits that I can't let go...but it was only a handful of items...30 years from now, she'll probably wonder "mom, what WERE you thinking of saving these for 30 years"...

Anyway, it felt good to get something accomplished!

Monday night fun with Matthew & Maddie...

Why I smiled today...A fun, albeit chaotic evening at Rachel's house. Charlie DID have a great time, she just was not into posing for any photos right before we headed home. I did miss the money shot, the "group hug" photo of the three of them...This outfit was Maddie's 7th outfit change of the evening. We DID go upstairs and help clean-up Maddie's room (successfully) before we left.

Weekend recap...

What a fun/busy weekend! I woke-up at 2:30am WIDE awake this morning. That's what happens when I fall asleep on the bed with Charlie @4pm on Sunday afternoon and we don't get up until 6pm!

Anyway, I did something I rarely do...I didn't take ANY photos this weekend! My camera was with me on Saturday at the all day scrapbooking event, but I didn't take one photo of any of folks I was with. I did get one cool project almost finished, so I should take a photo of that.

Sunday, relaxing day. I had a great Relay meeting in the morning with a wonderful gal who drove up from Salem to meet with me (thanks Kathy O.)!

Charlie had fun helping Victor fix dinner (she really did supervise the cutting of all the veggies). We had yummy turkey chili for dinner!

One serious bubble bath last night in the big tub and Charlie was a very happy camper, but stayed up later than I did. When I checked on her at 3:30am, she was buried under her big blanket and you could hear her snoring!

Happy Monday everyone.

Friday recap...

Today was a great day! ;-)

Little Gym make-up class in the morning. Lunch with Susie. Relay For Life meeting in Beaverton with Dana (thanks Dana). Victor went war gaming with Garland Friday night. Nana & Papa called to tell us they had mail for us, so Charlie & I met up with them at Baja Fresh for dinner and Charlie really had FUN!

Charlie & I come back home and she got some SERIOUS bubbles in mommy's bathtub. We now are using our bigger tub for baths and she LOVES it!

A little singing, dancing and she wanted to watch "the dragon movie"...AKA "Night at the Museum"...She LOVES watching the part when the dinosaur comes to life the first night Ben Stiller is on patrol...I was knitting next to her and she was talking up a storm...next thing I know, she's OUT, totally OUT with a bit of a smile on her face.

I put her in her own bed, I work on packing up my stuff for Saturday's all day scrapbooking event and I'm gonna call it a night.

Hope you all have a great weekend!

Mommy he's scary...

She totally cracks me up...he "sorta" looks scary looking, she kept making this face tonight.

Fun at Me Too...

Victor needed to get some homework/writing done today, so he took Charlie over to Me Too, she loves that place. While they were there, one of our local TV stations, KPTV, had a reporter there doing a spot for next weeks morning show. They took video of the kids playing (Charlie was in the room) and also did a camera pan of the cafe area where Victor was sitting. Victor talked to the owner of Me Too after the news crew was gone and she told him that the spot should air either Jan. 28th or the first week of February. So, if they are on the video, I'll make sure to link it to the blog once it airs.

FYI -- All you mommies and daddies out there on the westside of town, this really is a great place to bring your kiddo and get some reading/computer or just really cool babysitting for a great price and you can enjoy a fun meal too!

Here's Charlie playing and the the photo below enjoying her lunch. She really likes going there to play.

Great TRUE story...

Why I smiled today...received this story from a co-worker....I'm now a true Kurt Warner FAN!!! GO CARDINALS!!!

KURTIS THE STOCK BOY AND BRENDA THE CHECKOUT GIRL

In a supermarket, Kurtis the stock boy, was busily working when a new voice came over the loud speaker asking for a carry out at register 4. Kurtis was almost finished, and wanted to get some fresh air, and decided to answer the call. As he approached the check-out stand a distant smile caught his eye, the new check-out girl was beautiful. She was an older woman (maybe 26, and he was only 22) and he fell in love.

Later that day, after his shift was over, he waited by the punch clock to find out her name. She came into the break room, smiled softly at him, took her card and punched out, then left. He looked at her card, BRENDA. He walked out only to see her start walking up the road. Next day, he waited outside as she left the supermarket, and offered her a ride home. He looked harmless enough, and she accepted. When he dropped her off, he asked if maybe he could see her again, outside of work. She simply said it wasn't possible.

He pressed and she explained she had two children and she couldn't afford a baby-sitter, so he offered to pay for the baby-sitter. Reluctantly she accepted his offer for a date for the following Saturday. That Saturday night he arrived at her door only to have her tell him that she was unable to go with him. The baby-sitter had called and canceled. To which Kurtis simply said, "Well, let's take the kids with us."

She tried to explain that taking the children was not an option, but again not taking no for an answer, he pressed. Finally Brenda, brought him inside to meet her children. She had an older daughter who was just as cute as a bug, Kurtis thought, then Brenda brought out her son, in a wheelchair. He was born a paraplegic with Down Syndrome.

Kurtis asked Brenda, "I still don't understand why the kids can't come with us?" Brenda was amazed. Most men would run away from a woman with two kids, especially if one had disabilities - just like her first husband and father of her children had done. Kurtis was not ordinary - - - he had a different mindset.

That evening Kurtis and Brenda loaded up the kids, went to dinner and the movies. When her son needed anything Kurtis would take care of him. When he needed to use the restroom, he picked him up out of his wheelchair, took him and brought him back. The kids loved Kurtis. At the end of the evening, Brenda knew this was the man she was going to marry and spend the rest of her life with.

A year later, they were married and Kurtis adopted both of her children. Since then they have added two more kids.

So what happened to Kurtis the stock boy and Brenda the check-out girl? Well,Mr. & Mrs. Kurt Warner now live in Arizona , where he is currently employed as the quarterback of the National Football League Arizona Cardinals and has his Cardinals in the hunt for a possible appearance in the Super Bowl. Is this a surprise ending or could you have guessed that he was not an ordinary person.

It should be noted that he also quarterbacked the Rams in Super Bowl XXXVI. He has also been the NLF's Most Valuable Player twice and the Super Bowl's Most Valuable Player. For those of you who don't know this: Kurtis is a Christian and proclaims it every chance he gets!

Fun afternoon at the park...

Victor & Charlotte had a great time at our neighborhood park. When Charlotte was done, she told Victor she was cold and it was time to go. They raced each other all the way home.

6 degrees of Kathy via Facebook, etc...

Well, I always joke about never having met a stranger or always running into somebody I know, no matter WHERE in the world (literally) I am...

I've had a couple of rather funny/good run-ins with folks the past couple of weeks. The funny one was last Saturday at our local bakery. I was going in to pick-up Susie's birthday cake. I told one of the employees I was there to pick-up a cake and they asked me my last name. I said it and then spelled it out (otherwise people always try and look under "S" instead of "C"). The gentleman standing ahead of me in line turned around and asked me "Do you know a Kathy Cina? The Kathy Cina that works for 'my bosses name' at Intel?" I laughed and said, "Why yes I do, I'm Kathy Cina. And you are?" Turns out we both had emailed, talked on the phone and had many IMs (instant messages) over the past 1 1/2 years with each other...he meets with my boss 2x month, we'd just never met face to face....SMALL WORLD.

Enter FB (facebook)...I got a FB account a few months ago to see photos of some friends that posted pictures and updates about their family & trips. I purposely hadn't added my maiden name, but did put that I was in the FG class of '87. A few folks requested that I be friends, then a few more. Then some folks I hadn't seen in years popped up, so I sent emails with "Hi from Kathy Green Cina" and more folks started popping up. So last night I see a name I hadn't seen since Kim's wedding in '02 on another persons list of friends, that I'm already friends with, but she's in TX and also friends with the person that I knew in high school...Holy cow, these two families know each other and both now live in Austin....talk about a VERY SMALL WORLD!

So, Trina & JT ...you guys are my latest 6 degrees of Kathy via FB...

Free doughnut day at Krispy Kreme....

On Inauguration Day (1/20), participating Krispy Kreme stores will give one free doughnut to anyone who asks for it. Any doughnut you want. No purchase necessary. The Beaverton and Clackamas stores are participating.

I told Victor about it last night, so Charlie & him took a little field trip this morning...she asked for her own doughnut and thoroughly enjoyed it!

Also, if you go to their website, check out the cute little heart shaped doughnuts for Valentines Day...

Thanks Nana & Papa...

I had a Relay Council Task Force phone meeting tonight and Victor had class, so Charlie & I went up to mom & dad's for the evening. We had dinner with them, then Nana & Papa kept Charlie entertained (or she kept them entertained), while I was on my phone conference.

Why I smiled today...Lots of laughs and fun at Nana & Papa's house tonight.

Tequila and Salt...

I received this from a couple of people at work today and thought it was really good! ;-)

This should probably be taped
to your bathroom mirror
where one could read it every day.
You may not realize it,
but it's 100% true.

1. There are at least two people in this world
that you would die for.

2.. At least 15 people in this world
love you in some way.

3. The only reason anyone would ever hate you
is because they want to
be just like you.

4. A smile from you can bring happiness to anyone,
even if they don't
like you.

5. Every night,
SOMEONE thinks about you
before they go to sleep.

6. You mean the world to someone.

7. You are special and unique.

8. Someone that you don't even know exists loves you.

9. When you make the biggest mistake ever,
something good comes from it.

10. When you think the world
has turned its back on you
take another look.

11. Always remember the compliments you received.
Forget about the rude remarks.

So...........

If you are a loving friend,
send this to everyone,
including the one that sent it to you.
If you get it back, then they really do love you.

And always remember....

when life hands you Lemons,
ask for Tequila and Salt and call me over!

Good friends are like stars........
You don't always see them,
But you know they are always there.

"Whenever God Closes One Door He Always Opens Another, Even Though
Sometimes It's Hell in the Hallway"

I would rather have one rose and a kind word
from a friend while I'm here
than a whole truck load when I'm gone.

Happiness keeps You Sweet,
Trials keep You Strong,
Sorrows keep You Human,
Failures keeps You Humble,

Success keeps You Glowing,
But Only God keeps You
Going

Inauguration 2009...

Barack Obama was sworn in as the 44th president of the United States at 12:05 p.m. ET Tuesday. I was at work today, so I wasn't able to watch it on tv. Definitely a historical day for America.

Earlier this morning at the White House.

New In Town..

I'm adding this to my "must see" movie list....I love Renee Zellweger movies (she cracks me up) and Harry Connick Jr. is in it too... ;-)

10 Things...

Interesting list that a friend sent me today: http://www.yesmagazine.org/article.asp?id=3022#top

New apron...

Why I smiled today...Charlie had quite the fun time "entertaining" Rosemary when she stopped by tonight to give us the aprons she won at the Craft Warehouse holiday party Saturday night. Charlie wouldn't wear it while Rosemary was here, but she sure did entertain us!

Digital layout for Susu...

I did this layout for Susie's birthday from Charlie!

A fun morning with Isaiah...

Why I smiled today...Watching Charlie & Isaiah play this morning over at Debi's house.

I haven't seen Isaiah for almost 2 years. Debi & I decided it was time to get the two munchkins together for a play date. Isaiah was a great little host. He let Charlie play with all his toys over at his Grandpa & Grandma's house and he even let Charlie play with his remote control John Deere tractor. Can't wait to have these two play together again.

I also got to see a few of the projects Debi's been working on (see last two photos). I missed the day monthly charity quilting session with my friends from work on Saturday night. I'm hoping to make it in February.

The "Q" turns 40...

Why I smiled today...We had a great time "surprising" Susie tonight at the Cornelius Pass Roadhouse for her 40th b-day celebration.

Shawn & Tyler did an awesome job blind folding her and then dressing up like Magnum P.I. (at least the mustaches & Detroit Tigers baseball hats)...they looked great.

There was a great turn out and a few surprise guests. Thanks to Scott & Suzanne for coming up from Austin, Laura & family for coming up from Eugene & Donna, Dick & Lori for also coming up from Eugene! It meant the world to Susie.

Here are a few fun photos from tonight's party.

Sweatheart washcloths...

Why I smiled today...My little helper was a big help today with the washcloths I had started. She "helped" unwind the yarn and played drums with my knitting needles....we had lots of fun!

Here's a great new pattern I got from my favorite knitting pattern maker Susan B. Anderson. She's the same gal that I got the WeeBee hat pattern from last year. Love her work! The two washcloths pictured aren't totally done yet, I still need to crochet the picot edging (but I need more brain power to do that the first time).

Rosemary & I are thinking about making a bunch of these for a Relay For Life FUNdraiser this year! So stay tuned for info regarding pricing....These would make great gifts for Valentines Day...

www.KnittingHelp.com

If you ever want to learn to knit, or if you are like me and know how to but forget what something like ssk means (slip, slip, knit two stitches together), this is the BEST website I've heard about. http://www.knittinghelp.com/

I really like it because they have video tutorials that will help you out that you can watch over and over and over again if you need to (I used their web last night when I got stumped on my latest little project and it came through for me once again).

Girl Scout Cookie Time...

I was a Brownie & Girl Scout until the 5th grade. I don't remember much except that my mom was one of the troop leaders. Not sure if Charlotte will be a Brownie down the road or not, but for now, my friend Amber's daughter Makena's troop is selling cookies, $4 per box (the troop gets $.95 per box)...

There is a NEW cookie again this year, the Dulce De Leche. Cookies available are as follows:

SAMOA - Chewy and rich! Tender vanilla cookies, covered with caramel, rolled in toasted coconut, and striped with a rich, chocolaty coating. Approx. Count per pkg: 15

TREFOIL - Light and delicious! Delicate-tasting shortbread that is simple and satisfying. Approx. Count per pkg: 36

THIN MINT - Extra thin, extra minty! A thin wafer covered with a smooth chocolaty coating. Made with natural peppermint. Approx. Count per pkg: 28

TAGALONG - Wildly popular! Tasty cookies topped with creamy peanut butter and covered with a luscious chocolaty coating. Approx. Count per pkg: 15

DO-SI-DO - Peanutty excitement! “Naturally Good!” Crisp and crunchy oatmeal cookies with creamy peanut butter filling. No artificial color or flavor. Approx. Count per pkg: 20

LEMON CHALET - The height of lemon flavor! Uniquely designed to feature Our Chalet,
this delicious vanilla sandwich has a hint of cinnamon-ginger spice and a refreshing zesty lemon creme filling. Approx. Count per pkg: 20

SUGAR FREE CHOCOLATE CHIP - All of the taste, none of the sugar! A classic favorite with real chocolate chips — now sugar free! Approx. Count per pkg: 15

DULCE DE LECHE - As fun to say as they are to eat! Inspired by the classic confections of Latin America, these sweet, indulgent cookies are rich with milk caramel chips and stripes.
Approx. Count per pkg: 15

SO, if you are interested in buying some cookies and don't have your own cookie dealer, let me know and I'll connect you up with Makena & Amber!

My mantra for 2009 -- FREE or really inexepensive...

Here is a wonderful website (thanks Amber) for saving money in Portland and beyond...
http://aroundthesunblog.com/

Example: FREE admission to the Oregon Zoo on Monday, Jan. 19th.

If you live in the Portland/Vancouver area, bookmark this link and check it out..great stuff!

Let sleeping toddlers sleep...

Why I smiled today...This is what I saw when I walked in the door tonight after work. One pooped out pud! Guess Nana must have worn her out today.
