'Twas the weekend before 2nd grade...

And all through the house, the kiddo was squirming and waiting to pounce!

Okay, seriously, can't rhyme to save my life...ready for school to start tomorrow!

Hair trim on Saturday and fancy braiding was done by the stylist!

Mom and Dad stopped over this afternoon to wish her a great first day!

She seriously SLEPT IN all three days this weekend!

Gorgeous sky tonight!

Made a gnome family for a Relay friend who wanted them for friend's of hers.

Went down to OMSI Monday to pick-up two treats for the kiddo!  She'd been saving her allowance for months.

Apparently I do my best crocheting work after drinking ONE Mike's!

Almost school time...

Tonight was the ice cream social, find out who your teacher is for the year night at school.

Charlotte isn't in Mrs O'Brien's class, but will have Mrs. Hawks.  We've heard AWESOME things about her and I'm excited that there will be more structure and hopefully spelling & math tests this year!

Two thumbs up for 2nd grade starting on Tuesday!

Last day of May...

Pretty great day today!  Of course, any day is a GREAT day!

We found out Tuesday that we needed to look for a different place for Charlotte to attend after school care this fall since her old daycare isn't able to bus from her school anymore due to lack of kiddos attending...so today Victor and I met with her new after school care and we KNOW she's gonna LOVE it!  She knows 6 other kiddos from first grade that go there, so she's super excited.  Lots more structure, homework (during summer) and field trips!  She'll start going there June 17th!

I met up with Kim and Jelayne for lunch.  I hadn't seen Jelayne since Kim/Andy's wedding and in a six degrees of Facebook situation that could ONLY happen to me....Jelayne and a friend of Victor's (Trina) were home schooling friends in Texas and only I would be married to somebody that knew/worked with somebody in Portland, who then moved to Texas and was friends with Jelayne...such a SMALL world.  Jelayne in her family moved back to Portland last summer and she's reconnecting folks and I'm grateful for that.

Victor, Charlotte and I went to her school's Spring Fling tonight and had a great time.  Victor and I saw/talked to some of the parents of her friends that we are getting to know and Charlotte hung out with several of her friends and had a blast.

The evening was a fundraiser for the PTA and thankfully mother nature cooperated and the weather was perfect!

Love days like this!

Camielle, Monet (behind Charlotte), Mia and Charlotte doing the Harlem Shake.

Mia, Charlotte and Camielle....can't wait to watch this kiddos grow up together!

Home work...

I love homework time after school on non-CrossFit/Gymnastics nights!

New reading program on the iPad.  She can track/read/take comprehension quizzes online and  both her teacher and Victor and I can see what she's up to!

Joust...

This morning Victor and I attended Jackson's musical "Joust".  ALL 400+ kiddos were part of the performance.  Charlotte had a blast and as always, I'm impressed how the teachers can get the kiddos to stay relatively "calm" and contained while the older kiddos perform on stage.

Listening to 400+ kazoos was FUN!

Teacher appreciation week...

This week is teacher appreciation week.  Although, like everything else, I think EVERYDAY should be teacher appreciation!

My friend Jenn had found this fun apple pattern and whipped three for her kiddos teachers.  So I followed suit and did the same thing for Mrs. O'Brien!  Crocheting goodness at its best!

Science fair (I wonder box)...

Charlie spent a couple of weeks working on her project.  We talked about what she wanted to do and she wanted to do space and the planets.  She spent a lot of time talking about questions she wanted to write down and we went looking for a few items to make her "wonder" box.

All the first graders had their boxes and small signs outside their classroom.  It was fun to see what all the kiddos came up with.

Charlie totally painted and designed her box.  Daddy supervised the painting (to avoid dark blue paint all over our carpet).

Pretty darn proud of our kiddo!

Give me an "ug"....as in slug...

Charlotte's class is working on "ug" words this week. Bug, hug, rug, tug, plug, mug, etc. When she was writing her words tonight I realized Rosemary and I had just made a crocheted SLUG, so I had to get a photo of her and her slug!

Cover girl...

Charlotte had told us she was on the school website....we didn't know what website she was referring to. A friend at work sent me a note with this photo from the HSD website asking if "is this somebody you know?"....he-he, of course it is!

She's a 'grader', first grader now...

Charlie holding up her "Kinder" first day photo....I'm gonna do this every first day of school.

Her back-pack is a little heavy with supplies (ream of paper) today...

She picked out a turtle to give to her teacher Mrs. O'Brien

Kinda corny, but it's the best I could come-up with...
