Grand Club challenge 2013...

Last year it switched from $1,000 Club to the Grand Club.  This year those that raise $1,000 or more will receive a Grand Club polo.   The kids sizes are kelly green and Charlotte received her polo yesterday.  I showed her the video she made when she was just 3 years old and we decided to make this video tonight...We will not stop until we find a CURE!!!

Relay Runway - Move it, Move it style...

Oh, so much fun Friday night...The Wee Bee and the Wee Ski made their Relay Runway debut Friday night. They raised a combined total of over $7,000 in 2010 for Relay. Check out the video and a few photos Shelley captured behind the scenes.

Future Event Chairs...without a doubt!

A little recognition is a powerful thing...

Back in 2008, the $1,000 club came to our local area Relays. Vancouver started it the year before and the rest of us "officially" adopted it. That first year it was in affect, we were Relaying in Hillsboro and both Charlie and I became $1K club members. The one thing that it was lacking in 2008, was some REAL recognition...we got our t-shirt and a thank you and that was it...needless to say, I was on Relay Council that year, not on the Committee and I did give the Committee some constructive feedback about the lack of recognition...

Fast forward to 2009...the shirts got their own "official" color (LOVE the RED)...I became the Event Chair in Beaverton, and I knew wanted to step it up a notch, like they do in "The Couve"...

SO...I did a little challenge, we had FUN and we got 10 $1k members last year....we did a special shout out at every Team meeting, we had a celebration breakfast, photo and even the macarena...we had FUN!!! It wasn't about the breakfast...it was about the feeling of accomplishment...celebrating the success of what the 10 of us were able to do and knowing that the 10 of us brought in nearly 30% of our Event's total money! If 10 of us could do it...what if we got even MORE $1K club members...

(FYI--we are all "attempting" to sign the letter "K")...some more successful than others...

Fast forward to this year....I KNEW we'd get all the '09 members back...how would we get even more? I made it a priority to make the $1K club an even BIGGER deal. I challenged each of the Team Captains AND Committee to do their part in earning their "red shirt"...My main example was my 3-year old daughter, if a 3-year old can raise $1k, we ALL should be able to. She had already raised $1k before 2010 had even begun for our 2010 Relay season (granted, she's got the cuteness factor working for her), but if you don't ASK folks to help you make a difference, you'll never get the donations...

Then in April, I think I lost my mind...I remember sitting at our Team meeting...chiming in with a few little challenges and then I stood up and asked how many people wanted to be $1k club members...75% of the room raised their hands...then I asked how many people would like a hand made Letty's Bag (made by me)...even more hands raised...then I did what I do all too often, I had an out of body experience and heard myself say "I will make each and every one of you a Letty's Bag, fabric of your choosing if you raise $1k"...I KNOW deep down why I did it...because I knew that if folks knew how sincere I was about THANKING them (as the Event Chair), making it personal and making sure they knew that raising $1k is a HUGE deal, that I would LOVE to make each and every $1k member a bag...and I HAVE! To date, we've got 26 members (as of today)...I've made 19 of the bags...I'll get the rest made after Relay...I've never had SUCH FUN giving someone something that I've made. My partner in crime (Rosemary) knew I was semi-over my head when we reached #15...but I don't care...we are recognizing these folks for their AWESOME accomplishments....we are making a BIG DEAL at the monthly meetings and we will make a BIG DEAL at Relay...Each time we get another member (or 2 or 3), I send out an email to the Team Captains/Committee and newest club member, giving them a shout out of congrats.

I know that ALL 26+ members (10 of which are Committee members) are thrilled to be getting a red shirt and wear it proudly. I believe we'll hit 30+....I'll be sewing the rest of the summer and it's fine by me. 2 hours of work for $1,000 to American Cancer Society is a HUGE win. And happy Relayers that are gonna challenge themselves to do it again next year = priceless!
